Politics: The Polish twins are dragging Poland back in time

Is Poland slowly but surely moving towards the same level of respect for fundamental rights and human rights as Turkey, as a conservative European parliamentarian recently said?

Recently, one of the twins, President Lech, has suggested the EU should reconsider its ban on the death penalty, which has alarmed other members of the European Union. It should be noted that the ban of the death penalty is a precondition to become part of the Union. They later corrected the shot, indicating that they were not aiming to make any such proposal right now. But in the meantime Europe knows better what to expect from the present polish government.

Meanwhile, one of the EU's largest new member, is attracting increasing condemnation and ridicule amid the twins' (and other members of the Law and Justice party (PiS) & the ultra-Catholic League of Polish Families, in the government) regular colourful expression of their extremist views on issues from homosexuality - which they equate with paedophilia - to anti-Semitism, racism and the slighting of most minorities.
